# Identical Products

> Lock in dimensions and weights across product variants with identical measurements to ensure accurate fulfillment costs and efficient processing.

When you sell product variants with the same physical dimensions and weight (like different colors, flavors, or sizes that fold identically), you can lock in consistent measurements across all variants. This ensures accurate fulfillment pricing and prevents measurement discrepancies between identical items.

## What Are Identical Products?

Identical products are variants of the same item that share identical physical characteristics:

**Same dimensions and weight across all variants** means products like:

* T-shirts in different colors (Small Red, Small Blue, Small Green) that all fold to the same size
* Candles in different scents with identical jar sizes and weights
* Supplement bottles with different flavors but identical bottle dimensions
* Shoes in different colors (if the same size) with identical packaging

Even when products vary in attributes like color, flavor, or style, if their physical measurements match exactly, they qualify as identical products.

## Why Lock Dimensions for Identical Products?

Locking dimensions and weights for identical products provides several benefits:

## How to Lock Dimensions for Identical Products

To lock dimensions and weights for your identical product variants, follow this process:

### Step 1: Gather Inventory IDs

Collect the inventory IDs (also called SKU IDs) for all product variants that share identical measurements. You can find inventory IDs in your [Product Catalog](/fulfillment/managing-products) by viewing the product details for each variant.

### Step 2: Submit Request via Jetpack Care

Contact Jetpack Care via Slack or email with:

* **List of Inventory IDs** for all identical variants
* **Confirmation** that all variants have identical dimensions and weight
* **Request** to Cubiscan one unit and apply measurements to all variants

### Step 3: Jetpack Cubiscans One Unit

Jetpack's receiving team will use Cubiscan technology to precisely measure one unit from your identical product group. Cubiscan captures:

* **Length, width, and height** in inches or centimeters
* **Weight** in pounds or kilograms
* **Dimensional weight** for shipping calculations

### Step 4: Measurements Applied to All Variants

Once Cubiscan measurements are captured for one unit, Jetpack applies those exact measurements to all variants in your identical product group. This locks in consistent dimensions and weight across the entire variant family.

<Warning title="Verify Identical Measurements First">
Before submitting a request, physically verify that all variants truly have identical dimensions when packaged. If variants differ even slightly in size or weight, they should not be grouped as identical products.

## Requirements for Identical Products

To qualify for identical product measurement locking, your variants must meet these criteria:

| Requirement | Details |
| ---------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Identical Packaged Dimensions** |

Same length, width, and height when ready to ship

Products that fold or compress must result in identical final sizes

Packaging must be consistent across all variants

|
| **Identical Weight** |

Same product weight including packaging

Minimal weight variation (within ounces/grams)

                                                                                         |
| **Consistent Packaging Materials** |

All variants use the same box, poly bag, or mailer type

Same packing materials and inserts

                                                                                     |

## Managing Identical Product Groups

Once your identical products have locked measurements, keep these management practices in mind:

### Adding New Variants

When you add new variants to an existing identical product group:

1. Verify the new variant has identical measurements to the existing group
2. Contact Jetpack Care to add the new variant's inventory ID to the locked measurement group
3. Jetpack will apply the existing Cubiscan measurements to the new variant

### Changing Product Packaging

If you change packaging for any variant in an identical product group:

1. **Notify Jetpack Care immediately** if packaging changes affect dimensions or weight
2. Request new Cubiscan measurements to update the locked dimensions
3. All variants in the group will be updated with new measurements

Remember: Even with locked dimensions, each package is still weighed individually during fulfillment. This ensures accurate carrier billing based on the actual shipped weight.
